what do you want first, the bad news or the good news?
the bad news is that good ol' don "puffy" atchinson won by a landslide. swystun did come in second, but it was a far second.
that fucker. whose up for a little direct action against the mayor?
the good - no, the AWESOME news, is that charlie clark won!! i am so SO happy about this. plus, there are some other progressive councillors, so don atchinson won't have everything his way.

today has been such a long day and tomorrow will be as well.
goodnight ya'll.

i dream in spanish

for the past couple weeks more than half of my dreams have been in spanish or had a honduran in it speaking to me in spanish. for the first couple months after coming back i almost never dreamt in spanish, but now it's pretty much every night. it's kind of neat, helps me to not forget my vocabulary.
last night i dreamt that my canada world youth group had gone back to honduras for some reason, but with our canadian families. my counterpart and i were staying with a different host family, and in my dream they kept saying things i couldn't understand and she had to translate (in spanish) for me. that happened a lot when we first got to honduras, my counterpart never learned much english, so she usually translated in spanish.
anyways, it was a weird dream, but it was cool that it was in spanish. i remember my sister telling me that when she got back from cwy, she dreamt in thai.
well, time to go finish planting my garden.

sleeping 'til noon....oh yeah

yesterday i had a day off after what felt like forever, and today i don't work until three, so i've been making good use of my time by staying up really late going to shows at amigo's and sleeping in. i'm ridiculously unproductive and it's great.
i looked today on the regina folk festival website to see how much tickets are just to go for one night, and the prices have actually gone up. they added gst to them and now everything's a few bucks more, and the advance weekend passes are now $75.

A very limited quantity of individual night tickets will also be available from May 15th until July 15th. Friday $43 (including $2.80 GST), Saturday $43 (including $2.80 GST) and Sunday $32 (including $2.10 GST).

i don't know, that may be a little too pricey for me... but then again, when will i ever see ani difranco again?
but then i was looking at the edmonton folk festival line-up and it's pretty sweet too. it's at the same time though, so i couldn't do both. maybe i'll go the the edmonton one and then from there, the yukon! ahh, i have no idea. first things first, finish working at the greenhouse. speaking of which, i have to be there in an hour.

some of the performers for the regina folk festival have been announced:

ANI DIFRANCO
STEVE EARLE
FEIST
LAL
NIYAZ
LEROY YOUNG (THE GRANDMASTER)
TONS OF FUN UNIVERSITY
UTAH PHILLIPS

holy crap!! however, it is the same time as the last weekend of the fringe (august 11-13). advance weekend passes are also $70 instead of $40 (what they were last year.) maybe once the schedule is posted all the acts i want to see will be playing in one night and i can just drive down for that. here's hoping

here i come..

next week i leave walkerton and the week after that i leave the country. crunch time. culture show on friday, and we are so not ready, but we'll figure it out. the hondurans have a natural rhythm that the canadians can't copy no matter how hard we try. i took some cool pictures for my work for a photo project we're doing. it made me want to learn more about photography.
on friday we had a party and i think it's a bad idea for us all to get tanked together. some people (ie the honduran boys) really do not know when to stop. it was a bad scene and i did some really stupid stuff. i don't think we'll repeat that anytime soon...
time flies, soon i'll be in honduras, and then before i know it i'll be home. if anyone wants to have any contact with me, now is the time to do it because quite possibly after next week i won't have any internet or phone access.
i can't even begin to explain what i've been doing, there's just too much, but times are good, i'm one happy kid.

today i am at

at the youth centre in walkterton. we come here every monday afternoon to paint murals and do whatever else there is to do. we're also here monday and wednesday evenings, supposedly running programs for youth but mostly just playing foosball and pool and hanging out. the youth centre is where our group chose to do our community activity day, a time when our whole group volunteers together. it's a pretty neat place and it's fun to be able to spend time with the whole group.
yesterday we got free tickets to a hockey game. it was the first time any of the hondurans had seen hockey in real life, and it was pretty fun. (go walkerton hawks!....) i am tired all the time here but it's not really a problem. today me and my counterpart are going to switch beds (hers is better than mine) and maybe that will make a difference. things are good, my host family is fantastic, my counterpart is great, and my spanish is getting so much better. here goes a little spanish just to show off (except i can speak better than i can spell so this may not be so good). mi manos tengo muchos rojo paintur en son porque yo estoy paintura los sillas para la casa de jouvenes. my spanish certainly isn't great, and i know not all of that was 100% correct, but at this point i'm not too worried about that. i should probably get back to work... our project supervisors aren't here this week so people are slacking off a bit. ah, too many people are reading over my shoulder!

so it's been awhile. the computer that at my house (at my host family's house) has this 'net nanny' thing that doesn't let you look at sites that are 'bad'. and i guess livejournal is a bad site, so i couldn't get on it for awhile. but i found a loophole and here i am. living in walkerton is pretty good. there's not a whole lot to do in the town but i live with a great host family and i like my cwy group a lot. i live with a girl from honduras too (my counterpart) and it is so weird and often very frustrating to not be able to communicate (my spanish is not very good and her english is worse), but we're both getting better fast. today at work we had a really funny confusion over a word. i asked her about something i read -a almond torte - and she said there was a song about it. i was a little puzzled as to why there would be a spanish song about almond pastery, and then we figured out she thought i said door (the words are similar) and was talking about a song that's about a door in the sky. you had to be there, but it was so funny. we work three days a week at a long term care facility for seniors, and it's interesting. it wasn't my first choice of work placement, but i enjoy it well enough. some of the things we do i'm not crazy about but they're a good learning experience for me. such as feeding residents who can't feed themselves. it's like feeding a baby..only not, and it's interesting. there's so much to say, but one of the other girls will be here right away to work on our ead (educational activity day) and i'd better go. i miss saskatoon and everyone!

7 more days!

this is it people, my final week in saskatoon. next tuesday at 6:15am i will be boarding a plane for toronto and not coming home for a long time. i found out that in honduras i will be living in a place called gracias. that's right, it's called thank you.
"This City was founded in 1536, by Capt. Juan de Chavez and the original name was Gracias a Dios. Apparently the Spanish conquistador had spent several days in this very mountainous area looking for a place to establish a city, and when he finally found an area flat enough to build such city, his first words where "gracias a Dios que hemos hallado tierra llana" (thank God that we have finally found flat land)" should be pretty sweet.
so since i'm leaving, i'm having a going away party this saturday the 17th and you're all invited! it starts fairly early, around 7 at my house. if you need the address let me know. please come and spread the word to others who know me (my house is small so although i would love to meet new people there's really only room for so many folks, so i'd like it to be people i know rather than people i don't...that's poorly worded but you know what i mean.) hope to see those of you who are able to make it on saturday!

what a day

thanks for the awesome birthday wishes everybody! i did indeed have a terrific day, the highlight being the show at le relias....and going swimming in the river...and all the good food i ate. well anyways, it was great. everyone i know is awesome. especially steph for everything she did for me (like getting everyone at le relais to sing to me! (which made me feel sort of embarrassed but i liked it)). some highlights of the show included getting very pleasantly drunk off the alcohol deirdre gave me as part of my birthday present, dancing in circles and giggling with steph during the robot ate me, "come on colin, dial us up a tasty nug," and firing a roman candle in massey park. all in all a good time.
and today our presentation in elrose went better than i thought it would, the teacher's were all really receptive and a lot of them seemed genuinly (sp?) to appreciate what we told them.
and now i'm off to meet ellen's friend karen (finally!). i just have to find the hideous shirt i got her from my work so i can creep her out right off the bat.

hello internet, how are you? it's been awhile. life has been so full lately, i've been doing a lot. jobs and ness creek and copious drug use and parties and friends and crazy up the wall emotions.... and today was will ferguson at the moose jaw festival of words and after that my family reunion at buffalo pound lake from which i just returned. i had the longest conversation i've ever had with my cousin jody cause we drove back together and it was really good.
last night i had this crazy self realization while biking to ellen's house after eating one of crystal and meagan's cookies. it didn't seem that weird at the time but this morning when i remembered it i realized how intense it was. i need to remember to be careful what i do.
it's been a crazy time lately but i'm too tired to type any more.
note to self -endings = good news/bad news.
